Oriñón is a bathing beach located in Castro Urdiales, Cantabria, in the Cantabrian Sea. The beach extends 1100 metres in length with an average width of 100 metres and has golden sand composition. It experiences moderate and windy wave conditions and is classified as highly occupied urban beach. Water quality has been consistently good to very good, with bacterial contamination levels remaining low.

Location

Castro Urdiales, Cantabria. The beach is accessible by car via the CA-141 road. Parking is available with 50–100 spaces. Bus service connects to Santander and Castro Urdiales.

Water quality classifications: 2005 Good, 2006 Very Good, 2007 Good, 2008 Good, 2009 Very Good, 2010 Very Good, 2011 Good. Chlorophyll-a concentration in the Oriñón estuary is below 5 µg/l. Coastal water phytoplankton density is around 2.2 µg/l near Castro Urdiales. Risk of non-compliance with Directive 2006/7/CE is assessed as medium, with high contamination risk from the Guriezo wastewater treatment plant.
