Patalavaca Beach is a 303-metre-long coastal bathing area located in Mogán municipality on Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 50 metres wide with dark sand substrate and is exposed to moderate wave action in a protected bay. The official bathing season runs from 1 February to 30 November. The water body is classified as a natural coastal surface water mass with good ecological status.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on four-year evaluation of faecal pollution indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci) under RD1341/2007. The water body is in good ecological status (biological and physicochemical). No prior contamination episodes recorded in the monitoring database. Water quality is monitored during the bathing season.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Marina Anfi del Mar sports port. Point pollution sources: La Verga ravine outflow (wastewater treatment plant plus emergency discharge point), two Anfi del Mar emergency discharge points, two separate wastewater treatment plants (Aquamarina and Anfi del Mar), and one emergency relief valve at Costa Alegre. Sporadic short-duration pollution episodes possible from stormwater runoff and raw or treated urban wastewater. Sporadic accidental hydrocarbon and organic waste discharges possible. Cyanobacteria bloom episodes (Trichodesmium) recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensively in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
