Playa La Verga is a coastal bathing beach located in Mogán, Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 180 meters long and 50 meters wide, featuring fine white artificial sand. Coastal waters of the southwestern coast of Gran Canaria. Water depth ranges from 0 to -5 meters. The water body is classified as ES70GCTII - Southwest coastal/natural shallow coastal. The beach has fine white artificial sand substrate. Waters are calm with wave exposure classified as protected.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified based on fecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) monitored over four years in accordance with Royal Decree 1341/2007. The water body is in good ecological status (biological and physicochemical). Potential pollution sources identified include a submarine outfall (El Balito), stormwater discharge from Barranco La Verga, sewer network, septic tank at Los Caideros, overflow at Playa Anfi del Mar, and the Aquamarina wastewater treatment plant.

Risks

Potential for short-duration episodic contamination from stormwater discharge caused by heavy rainfall carrying possible contaminants from upstream. Risk of raw or treated urban wastewater discharge due to submarine outfall rupture, sewer network failure, emergency overflow, or unauthorized discharges. Risk of brine discharge (desalination plant rejection). Risk of accidental discharge from recreational vessels (hydrocarbons, organic waste, boat cleaning). Episodes of cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
