Poniente Almerimar is a 2010-meter-long urban beach in El Ejido, Almería, with an average width of 70 meters and dark sand composition. It experiences moderate wave conditions and is often windy. The beach is heavily occupied and benefits from a maritime promenade with walkways. Swimming conditions are influenced by Mediterranean waters with Atlantic water influence, featuring a micromareal range and currents predominantly directed eastward.

Mediterranean coastal water body. Bathymetry shows deep waters with substrate composed of mud and sand. Micromareal range of 0–2 meters. Dominant current direction is eastward, east-southeastward, and east-northeastward. Dominant wave regime is from the east and east-northeastward associated with levante wind. Moderately exposed to wave action.

Location

Located in El Ejido, Almería, Andalucía, Spain, on the Almería coastline. Access is available on foot and by car. The nearest sports port is at Roquetas de Mar.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for seasons 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Risk to contamination is low and microbiological in nature with a short duration of 24 hours. Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the influence zone, built surfaces, forest, and natural areas. Risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation are all low.
