Somo is a bathing beach located in Ribamontán al Mar in the Cantabrian coast of Spain. The beach measures 120 meters in length with an average width of 40 meters and has a sandy composition with golden sand. It experiences medium occupancy and is situated in a semi-urban area. The beach is easily accessible by car and is equipped with lifeguard services and rescue equipment.

Location

Somo is located in Ribamontán al Mar, Cantabria, Spain. The nearest highway is CA-440. The nearest city is Santander, approximately 25 kilometers away. Parking is available with more than 100 spaces. Access is by car with signposted access points.

Lifeguard service, rescue equipment, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, first aid post (Red Cross), signage for dangerous conditions, vehicle access, parking over 100 spaces.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent in 2015, 2016, and 2017. The chlorophyll-a concentration in Santander Bay is below 5 µg/l. Phytoplankton density in Cantabrian estuaries is homogeneous with very low densities below 5,000,000 cells/l. Multiple urban discharge points and relief outfalls are documented in the area.

Risks

Multiple urban and relief discharge points identified in the vicinity. However, the current situation of sanitation systems in municipal areas discharging urban wastewater to Santander Bay does not pose a risk to Somo beach. Risk classification: low contamination risk (green zone).
