Playa Torviscas is a 300-metre-long coastal bathing beach in Adeje, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 50 metres wide with golden sand substrate and is exposed to moderate wave conditions with calm waters. The bathing zone is characterized by a natural coastal surface water body in good ecological status.

Natural coastal surface water body (Montaña Pelada – Barranco Seco). Water depth ranges from 0 to -4 metres. Tidal range 1–3 metres. Wave exposure: exposed-protected. Wave regime: calm waters. Substrate: golden sand.

Location

Located in Costa Adeje, Adeje municipality, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. Good pedestrian and vehicular access. Good disabled access. Parking available and in good condition.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on evaluation of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci indicators over four years according to RD1341/2007. Water body in good ecological status (biological and physicochemical). No contamination episodes detected.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Puerto Colón sports port. Point pollution sources: EDAM Hotel Gran Anthelia, Torviscas terrestrial emissary, EBAR Torviscas overflow. Watercourse inputs: Barranco Fañabé and Barranco de La Montañeta. Potential short-duration contamination from stormwater runoff due to heavy rainfall, raw or treated urban wastewater (emissary breaks, sewage network failure, overflows, emergency discharge), brine discharge (EDAM rejection), accidental hydrocarbon or organic waste spillage, and saltwater discharge from pool draining. Cyanobacteria Trichodesmium bloom episodes recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
