Fòrum bathing zone is an urban beach located in Barcelona, Spain, within the Mediterranean Sea. The beach is 400 meters long with an average width of 70 meters and covers an area of 26,800 square meters. It is bounded by the Fòrum port to the northeast and the Prim breakwater to the southwest. Summer occupancy levels are low.

Water

Sandy Mediterranean Sea beach in an urban environment with moderate continental influence. Water salinity ranges from 37.4 to 38.4 psu. Mean water temperatures: June 21.8°C, July 24.7°C, August 25.1°C, September 24.3°C. Predominant sea state is calm with weak southeast winds. The water body belongs to the C19 Sant Adrià de Besòs mass of water, classified as a sandy shallow water body with moderate continental influence.

Location

Barcelona, Spain, in the Barcelonès district. The beach is bordered by the Fòrum port to the northeast and the Prim breakwater to the southwest. Further information about the beach and its facilities is available on the Barcelona City Council website.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Microbiological and environmental monitoring occurs during 17 consecutive weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality is controlled by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring occurs weekly, analyzing Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental monitoring includes a minimum of three weekly inspections evaluating transparency, coloration, floating solids, marine and terrestrial vegetation, scum, phytoplankton blooms, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. The Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB) also conducts weekly quality evaluations.

Risks

Water discharges occur through the Prim breakwater during rainfall conditions, conveying rainwater and wastewater fractions from the Horta and Diagonal Mar stream basins (1,207 and 204 hectares respectively). Four emergency discharge points are located at different breakwaters (Gas, Bogatell, Bac de Roda, and Prim) during heavy rain. The Besòs wastewater treatment system serves the bathing area with a principal submarine outfall located at the Parc Nord-Est beach in Sant Adrià de Besòs.
