Tharon Beach is a bathing water area located in the commune of Saint Michel Chef Chef within the Pornic inter-municipal community in Loire-Atlantique department. The beach is subject to European bathing water quality directives and microbiological monitoring for E. coli and intestinal enterococci. The vulnerability profile was established in December 2010 to identify potential pollution sources and assess contamination risks to the bathing zone.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE using two microbiological parameters: E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Classification categories range from excellent to insufficient quality. The profile identifies potential pollution sources including wastewater networks, treatment plant discharges, and stormwater overflows.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include: wastewater treatment plant discharge from Princetière station, combined sewer overflows during rainfall periods, hydrographic network contamination, and potential macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation.
