Pragalvio tvenkinio paplūdimys is a public bathing beach located in Akmenės municipality in the Šiauliai district of Lithuania. The beach has a natural shoreline with sandy and gravelly sediments, stretching approximately 150 meters. The bathing area features natural vegetation including reeds and sedges in some sections. The surrounding area includes a pine forest and Akmenės Nature and Culture Park, which contains wooden sculptures, a stone stage, and benches for recreation.

Water

Pragalvys is a freshwater reservoir with an average water depth of approximately 1.5 meters at the bathing area. The reservoir is part of the Venta river basin (river basin district code LT2300). The water body has an average annual discharge rate of 8.1 cubic meters per second, with the highest discharge occurring in February and lowest in August.

Location

Located in Akmenės municipality, Šiauliai district, Lithuania. The beach is situated on Pragalvys reservoir, with nearby features including Akmenės Nature and Culture Park. The bathing site is marked on regional maps and is publicly accessible.

Facilities

Toilet available at the bathing site. Showers are not available. Additional toilet facilities are located in nearby Akmenės Nature and Culture Park. A volleyball court is provided at the beach. Waste management includes municipal waste containers and a concrete waste bin. Smoking is prohibited in the area. Warning signs are posted.

Water Quality

Water quality has met excellent quality standards from 2018 to 2024 according to Directive 2006/7/EB requirements. Monitoring is conducted in accordance with Lithuanian hygiene standards HN 92:2018, assessing microbiological parameters (intestinal rods and intestinal enterococci). Water transparency is also monitored. No significant changes in eutrophication have been detected over the past five years.

Risks

An sheep farm and rural tourism facility are located approximately 1 kilometer away on the opposite side of the reservoir. Potential temporary water pollution may occur from surface water runoff during rain or from irresponsible human activities. No systematic pollution sources have been identified. No blue-green algae, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton studies were conducted; visual inspections before and during the bathing season monitor for floating debris.
