Šaukėnų tvenkinys is a public bathing area located in the Ventos river basin in Lithuania. The beach features sand and natural grass, with water vegetation including reeds and sedges along the shoreline. The bathing area has a beach length of approximately 50 metres and can accommodate about 100–120 visitors during peak season under favourable weather conditions. From 2018 to 2024, water quality consistently met excellent quality requirements.

Water

Reservoir in the Ventos river basin. Average water depth is 1.2 metres, maximum depth is 1.5 metres with gradual deepening. Beach length is approximately 50 metres. Average annual precipitation in the basin is 707 millimetres, with rainfall peaking in August and lowest in May.

Location

Located in Kelmės rajono (Kelmė district), Šaukėnų seniūnija (Šaukėnai municipality), Šiauliai county, Lithuania. Monitoring coordinates: X=55.8155, Y=22.8878.

Facilities

One toilet, one bio-toilet. Basketball court, volleyball court, children's play area, covered rest area, outdoor stage platform, and outdoor fitness equipment available. Domestic animals are prohibited on the beach. Five waste bins and one communal waste container are provided.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent from 2018 to 2024. Lithuania has reported on this bathing water according to EU Directive 2006/7/EB requirements since 2008. Water transparency monitoring has been conducted. Water quality is influenced by eutrophication resulting from natural sources or human activity.

Risks

Short-term pollution possible during heavy rainfall; pollution typically disappears within 1–2 days after rain ceases. An adjacent boggy reservoir may potentially affect water quality. No concentrated or dispersed pollution sources identified in the impact zone.
