Artificial lake with an area of 2.8 hectares, average depth of 1.5 m, and maximum depth of 3 m. Catchment area is very small (less than 10 km²). Water exchange time exceeds 30 days. Water transparency ranges from 0.5 m to 1.7 m with an average of 0.9 m. pH ranges from 8.0 to 8.7 with an average of 8.4. Conductivity ranges from 432 to 568 µS/cm with an average of 492 µS/cm. The lake has no natural inflow and water level is regulated by overflow.

The bathing area is located in Borken, North Rhine-Westphalia. The operator is Stadt Borken, Im Pipershagen, 46325 Borken. The sampling point is at UTM coordinates E: 347702 N: 5744867.

Water Quality

Bathing water quality classification: excellent for all four years from 2020 to 2023. Nutrient status is polytroph I. No relevant pollution sources have been identified. Microbiological and chemical contamination of sediments is absent.

Risks

Occasional bird activity with effects on the water body. Cercariae (duck flea causing bathing dermatitis) occur occasionally. Cyanobacterial blooms are rarely observed. Risk of future cyanobacterial mass development is rare based on available parameters. Risk of future phytoplankton mass development is rare.
