Classification: SUFFICIENT (2008-2011). Water quality monitoring is not currently actively deployed with specific measures. Identified pollution sources include coastal treatment plants (Darsena and Punta Vagno wastewater treatment plants with active discharge pipes) and river mouths.

Risks

Potentially toxic algal strains have been identified. In July 2007, monitoring detected an exceedance of the alert threshold for Ostreopsis ovata concentration. The aquatic ecosystem during algal blooms exhibited typical signs of stress from bloom-affected environments.
