Ramalha is a rural beach with a wide sandy strip. A consolidated dune system is present to the north, while a dune in formation exists to the south. The beach is located in the Cávado river basin and monitored under Portuguese bathing water regulations.

14 June to 14 September 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/09. No days of bathing prohibition or advisory due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season. Sampling frequency is every 3 weeks.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive tributary flow during rainfall, leading to microbiological contamination, or due to sewage treatment plant malfunction with discharge of untreated effluent. Faecal contamination may originate from the Ramalha tributary or the sewerage network. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with historical occurrence of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no historical occurrence.
