Location

Located in Sperlonga, Province of Latina, Lazio region, Italy. The bathing area is situated in the Fondi-Itri watershed basin. Water Quality

Water quality classification: elevated. Monitoring is conducted according to European Directive 91/271/CE standards. One active urban treatment plant serves the municipality for populations over 2,000 inhabitants equivalent. Mollusk farming has been identified as a source of impact on bathing water. Currently, no specific monitoring programs are active to measure pollutant concentrations and limit their dispersion during the bathing season.

Risks

Mollusk farming is present in the area. Short-duration pollution events are under study with regard to an appropriate modeling approach. No cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in the previous four years. No toxic effects on swimmers or the aquatic environment have been documented.
