Water Quality

Water quality classification: elevated. The water body is located within the Fondi-Itri hydrographic basin. One active urban wastewater treatment plant serving over 2000 population equivalents operates in the reference municipality. No specific monitoring programmes are currently active to monitor contaminant concentrations and limit their spread during the bathing season.

Risks

Cyanobacteria proliferation has been identified, with Planktothrix rubescens recorded in previous events (within the last 4 years). No toxic effects on bathers or the aquatic environment were verified. Marine macroalgae and/or phytoplankton proliferation potential has been evaluated. Molliculture is present as an identified pollution source.
