Playa Galindón is a continental bathing beach located in the town center of San Nicolás del Puerto in Seville Province, Andalusia. The beach is situated on the Río Hueznar, a low mountain Mediterranean river with siliceous bedrock composed of limestone and slate. The riverbed consists of exposed bedrock and concrete, with the beach area containing bare soil, concrete, sand, and grass. The site supports vegetation including repopulated elm and poplar trees and fauna including eagles, vultures, herons, ducks, storks, and various songbird species.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted 2003-2009 showed conformity with guide values in some years and non-conformity with imperative values in others. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations were measured in 2008 and 2009, with some samples exceeding 1000 CFU/100 ml. Significant point sources of fecal pollution include self-contamination from bathing users and sanitation in the bathing zone itself, discharge from Cortijo de Santa Ana at 1200 meters distance, and livestock farming in the influence area (124 cattle, 512 sheep, 92 goats, 577 pigs). Diffuse pollution sources include livestock runoff and potential accidental or illegal discharges.

Self-contamination from bathing users. Fecal microbial contamination from point sources including sanitation systems and livestock farming. Short-duration contamination risks from system failures in sewage networks, accidental or illegal discharges, dead animals, organic waste, and sediment remobilization. Potential health risk when intestinal enterococci concentrations exceed 1000 CFU/100 ml depending on water discharge rates.
