The Rivera de Usagres bathing zone is a continental river bathing area located west of the town of Usagre in Badajoz Province, Extremadura, Spain. The site features an artificial swimming area created by a dam and concrete and stone walls within the Rivera de Usagres river. The bathing zone is situated in the Guadiana river basin at an altitude of 566 meters and serves recreational purposes with a range of visitor amenities. The river is fed by runoff, direct precipitation, and discharge from the underlying aquifer.

Water

River (Río Rivera de Usagres). The water body is a Herculian siliceous plains river located in a zone of Herculian mountain ranges with numerous granitic batholiths. The bathing area is an artificial swimming pool created by a dam with concrete and stone walls. The riverbed is composed of concrete and stone from the masonry wall. The beach is composed of medium-sized sand and grasses.

Location

West of Usagre town, Badajoz Province, Extremadura, Spain. Access via the BA-141 road toward Hinojosa del Valle in the direction of the sports complex (polideportivo); the bathing area is located at the Merendero Presa Honda facility midway along this route. Parking is available.

Facilities

Parking, information signs, bar/restaurant, picnic areas, waste bins, restrooms, recreational zone, barbecues, fountains, waste collection (daily), and children's play area. No lifeguard posts, showers, boat landing, swimming pools, or domestic animal access.

Season

Bathing season monitoring conducted fortnightly. Wettest month December, driest month July.

Water Quality

Water quality classification by season: 2015 Good, 2016 Sufficient, 2017 Sufficient, 2018 Good, 2019 Good, 2020 Good. All point data for both microbiological parameters (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) indicate the bathing area is suitable for bathing. Monitoring is conducted fortnightly during the bathing season.
