Rocha is a coastal bathing water located on an urban beach with intensive use in the Portimão municipality. The beach features wide golden sand extending over 1 kilometre, surrounded by cliffs with recesses. The beach front extends 1,139 metres with a tidal range of 3.4 metres and mean wave height of 0.5 metres. Prevailing winds are from the northwest.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions occurred in the 2022 bathing season due to short-term pollution events. Microbiological contamination may occur due to sporadic malfunction of sanitation infrastructures or heavy rainfall causing surface run-off and overflows, but such events are scarce.

Risks

Potential microbiological pollution from sanitation infrastructure malfunctions and heavy rainfall events. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely. Macroalgae proliferation is uncommon. Phytoplankton proliferation is unlikely.
