Plage des Sables Rouges is located on the east side of Groix island, the second largest island in Brittany. The island is 8 km long and 3 km wide, consisting largely of a micaschist plateau. The beach is situated near sensitive ecological zones and is frequented non-occasionally with instantaneous attendance exceeding 10 swimmers during the bathing season.

Water

Coastal bathing area with no rivers present at the beach location. The watershed area is 6 hectares with limited soil impermeability of approximately 5% of total watershed surface.

Location

East side of Groix island, Morbihan department, off the south coast of Brittany. Groix is the second largest island in Brittany.

Water Quality

As of the 2013 season, bathing water at Plage des Sables Rouges was classified as Excellent quality. Water quality is monitored by ARS with historical analysis of bacterial concentrations including enterococci and E. coli.
