Sant'Ampelio is a rocky beach bathing area located in Bordighera, Liguria. The beach is part of the Sanremo water body along the Ligurian coast. Water quality has been classified as excellent based on 2008-2011 monitoring data. The Ligurian Sea does not experience cyanobacterial blooms due to its oligotrophic conditions, and no toxic algal strains have been recorded.

Coastal rocky area with an extent of 0.53 square kilometres. The water body is classified as Coastal Waters with low stability characteristics (CWA3).

Location

Bordighera, Liguria, Italy. The competent authority is the Municipality of Bordighera, via XX Settembre 32, telephone 01842721. The Port Authority is located at Via San Lazzaro, telephone 018366061.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal treatment plants, depuration systems, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. The Ligurian Sea maintains oligotrophic conditions. Short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations are under development of a modelling approach for characterization.

Risks

Potential pollution source identified from the port. Short-duration pollution event characterization and anomalous situation management approaches are in development. No cases of toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the last four years.
