Santa Corona is a bathing water area located in Pietra Ligure, Liguria, in the Savona province. The beach is predominantly sandy. The bathing area is classified as excellent based on water quality assessments from 2008–2011. The Ligurian Sea in this region does not experience cyanobacterial blooms due to predominant oligotrophic conditions, and there have been no cases of potentially toxic algal proliferation in the past four years.

Water

Coastal water body, part of the Ceriale-Finale water body. The bathing area extends 0.499 square kilometres. Mountainous coastal zone with low stability. The geographical area is a flatland zone. River mouth of Rio Ranzi impacts the bathing water.

Facilities

Private sea baths with associated services and other accommodation structures are present in the area. Animals are permitted access to the bathing area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants or active discharge pipes are present. Currently, no special measures or specific monitoring programmes are activated. The Ligurian Sea is characterised by oligotrophic conditions.

Risks

River mouths (Rio Ranzi) have been identified as a source of pollution impact on bathing water. Short-duration pollution events are being evaluated using a developing modelling approach. The potential for anomalous situations is being assessed using a developing modelling approach.
