Silbersee II is an artificial lake in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, designated as a bathing water body since 2006. The bathing area is located to the right of the boat dock on the lake. The water body covers 22 hectares with a sandy substrate and has been consistently rated as excellent over the past four years (2015–2018). Water temperature ranges from 13.4 to 22 degrees Celsius, with an average transparency of 1.6 meters.

Water

Artificial lake covering 22 hectares. Average water depth is 25 meters with a maximum depth of 40 meters. Water temperature ranges from 13.4 to 22 degrees Celsius (average 17.7°C). pH values range from 6.99 to 8.13 (average 7.56). Conductivity ranges from 239 to 326 µS/cm (average 283). Water transparency ranges from 0.7 to 2.5 meters (average 1.6). The lake is classified as mesotrophic with no inflow sources. Water exchange time is 30 days or less. The catchment area ranges from 10 to 100 square kilometers. The substrate and shoreline are sandy. Water level fluctuations range from 0.3 to 0.5 meters.

Location

The bathing water is located in Haltern am See in the Recklinghausen district. The beach or shoreline section extends 500 meters. The lake is situated at low elevation, below 200 meters above sea level.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent (2015–2018). The water body is unstratified and homogeneous. No relevant pollution sources have been identified. No cyanobacterial blooms were observed in the past four years. The risk of future cyanobacterial mass development is assessed as low.

Risks

Dredge ship rinsing water is directly re-entered into the lake. Occasional bird presence affects the water body. Low fish stocking occurs. No evidence of cercariae (swimmer's itch), microbiological sediment contamination, chemical sediment contamination, construction debris, or equipment contamination was found.
