Sommerbad Volksdorf is a bathing facility located in the northeast of Hamburg in the Wandsbek district, situated between forest and meadow areas near the Schleswig-Holstein border. The bathing area is a shallow, unstratified small lake that originated in the 1930s through peat extraction. The water body has a total area of 8,500 square metres with a maximum depth of 3.8 metres and an average depth of 2.0 metres. The facility is operated by the Hamburger Bund für Freikörperkultur und Familiensport e.V. and features both sandy beach and concrete wall access points.

Water

Shallow, unstratified small lake created through peat extraction in the 1930s. Total surface area 8,500 square metres. Maximum water depth 3.8 metres, average depth 2.0 metres. The bathing area comprises 100 metres of sandy beach and 70 metres of concrete wall, with access points primarily from the north and south shores.

Location

Located in Hamburg's Wandsbek district, in the Volksdorf neighbourhood, in the northeast of Hamburg near the border with Schleswig-Holstein. The bathing area is situated between forest and meadow areas.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent bathing water quality for the period 2015–2018. For the same period, Escherichia coli 95th percentile was 36.9 CFU/100 ml, 90th percentile 31.48 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal Enterococci 95th percentile was 15 CFU/100 ml, 90th percentile 15 CFU/100 ml. The water is treated using a Neptun-Filter water treatment system.
