Caucana Beach is a sandy beach located in Santa Croce Camerina, Sicily, delimited by low rocky promontories. The beach is 15 metres wide and extends 0.6 kilometres along the coast. The area experiences a subtropical dry climate with high summer temperatures and modest winter precipitation. The coastal strip shows signs of anthropogenic alteration due to urbanization and increased summer population, with visible erosion phenomena present.

Part of the Strait of Sicily (Canale di Sicilia). The bathing area extends 0.6 kilometres along the coast and is classified as an open and equipped coastal section.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No pollution sources are present within the bathing area itself. Potential pollution causes identified in the surrounding area include agricultural activities, intense urbanization, and untreated urban sewage. After primary treatment, wastewater is discharged into the sea via a submarine pipeline.

Risks

Heavy precipitation events can cause stormwater discharge and overflow from drainage systems into the bathing waters. White water discharge and peak flow discharge events have been identified as impacts on water quality. No anomalous situations have been recorded in recent years. Cyanobacteria and macroalgae proliferation potential: not documented.
