Punta Secca is a sandy beach located in Santa Croce Camerina, Sicily, facing a lighthouse. The beach has a low, sandy bottom that slopes gently and is enclosed between two rocky promontories. The beach is 15 meters wide and heavily urbanized, characterized by a subtropical dry climate with high summer temperatures and modest winter rainfall.

Part of the Strait of Sicily water body (IT1908156), coastal section 15. The beach extends 0.60 kilometers. The seabed is sandy with a low gradient.

Location

Santa Croce Camerina, Sicily (Ragusa province). The beach is located in the coastal area N.15 between Capo Scalambri and Licata. Coordinates: Y=36.7866, X=14.4956.

Facilities

Free and equipped coastal area. No signs or municipal ordinances prohibit animal access. The area is used solely for bathing.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Primary treatment of wastewater is applied before discharge into the sea via a submarine pipeline. Potential pollution sources include agricultural activities, intense urbanization, and untreated urban wastewater.

Risks

Heavy rainfall events can cause overflow of stormwater and combined sewer discharges. No sources of pollution are present within the bathing area itself. No cyanobacterial proliferation or macroalgal/phytoplankton proliferation events have been recorded in the past four years.
