Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Spiaggia Libera Lido is a pebble and grass beach located on Lake Terlago in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The beach spans approximately 600 square metres with a length of 40 metres and width of 15 metres, featuring a gradual slope from the emerged zone to the submerged zone. The beach is situated on municipal land and serves the nearby Campeggio Lillà. It receives an average of 70 swimmers daily during the summer months.

Water

Lake Terlago. The lake basin is part of the Adige hydrographic basin. Total phosphorus concentration was measured at 17 µg/l in 2013. Nitrate concentrations averaged 0.85 mg N/l in 2005–2006, well below vulnerability thresholds.

Location

Vallelaghi, Trentino-Alto Adige region, Trento province. The beach is located at an altitude of 416 metres above sea level, approximately 1.6 kilometres in extent.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2016–2019). Chemical status was rated as Good as of 2013. No short-duration pollution events were identified. No anomalous situations occurred in the preceding four years.

Risks

During heavy rainfall events in autumn, mixed sewer systems (combined surface and foul water) may cause pump blockages, resulting in partial discharge of wastewater into the stream tributary to the southern portion of the lake (not designated for bathing). A cyanobacterial bloom event was recorded in August 2016 (Aphanocapsa nubilum, 2.5×10⁴ cells/ml), with no reported effects. An internal phosphorus load exists from sediment release during anaerobic periods.
