Tankumsee is a 570,000 m² inland lake located in the municipality of Isenbüttel, Gifhorn district, situated within the Barnbruch landscape protection area in the Aller-Urstromtal plain. The lake was created in the 1970s during the construction of the Elbe Side Canal through the excavation of several hundred thousand cubic metres of sand, resulting in a 1,000 metre sandy beach. The lake is approximately 5 km from the city of Gifhorn and serves as a popular holiday and recreation area. It accommodates water sports enthusiasts including surfers and sailors. The site features a 25-metre tall experience tower with a 12-metre diameter offering 36 climbing stations across three levels with varying difficulty levels.
