Bernsteinsee is a 95,000 square metre inland lake located at the edge of the Stüde district in Sassenburg municipality, Gifhorn county. The lake was created in 1971 through excavation during construction of the Elbe-Seitenkanal, resulting in a beautiful sandy beach and great water clarity. It is situated approximately 15 km from the cities of Gifhorn and Wolfsburg and forms part of a popular holiday and recreation area.
