Gohaud Beach is located in the commune of Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef in Loire-Atlantique, France, within the Pornic inter-municipal community. The beach is subject to European Directive 2006/7/CE on bathing water quality management. A vulnerability profile was established in December 2010 to assess contamination risks and implement management measures.

Coastal bathing water. The water body is influenced by oceanic and climatic conditions, with hydrographic networks and stream flows contributing to the environment.

Location

Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef, Loire-Atlantique, France. Part of the Pornic inter-municipal community.

Season

Official monitoring and classification according to European Directive standards applied annually. From 2013 onwards, classification is based on analyses from the preceding four years.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored using two microbiological parameters: E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Classification follows European Directive standards with thresholds of 250 nb/100 ml (guide level) and 500 nb/100 ml (imperative level) for E. coli, and 100 nb/100 ml (guide level) and 200 nb/100 ml (imperative level) for enterococci. Quality is rated on a four-level scale: excellent, good, sufficient, or insufficient. Potential pollution sources have been identified and ranked, including wastewater networks, treatment plant discharge, and diffuse pollution.

Risks

Potential contamination risks from wastewater network overflows, treated water discharge from the Princetière treatment plant, stormwater runoff, and diffuse pollution sources. Macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential has been assessed. The beach is vulnerable to bacterial contamination during rainy periods.
