Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Totoriškių Lake is a bathing water body located in Trakai Municipality, Vilnius district, Lithuania. The beach features a natural shoreline with natural soil and grass meadows. The bathing area has a sandy bottom with small pebble inclusions, while other parts of the shore have mud and natural lake vegetation including reeds and sedges. The water body is situated within Trakai Historical National Park, a recreation area where agricultural activity is prohibited.

Water

Lake in the Neris river sub-basin of the Neman river basin. Average water depth is 1.5 metres; maximum depth is 2.5 metres. Beach length is 100 metres. The water body has Type 3 typology and maintains good ecological status meeting good ecological potential requirements. Annual average precipitation in the basin is 644 millimetres, with August recording the highest precipitation and September the lowest.

Location

Trakai Municipality, Vilnius district, Lithuania. The bathing area is within Trakai Historical National Park. Motor vehicle access to the lake shore is prohibited. Coordinates: 54.6432°N, 24.9248°E.

Facilities

Three toilets are available. Rest and bathing zones are designated. Waste management includes rubbish bins and domestic waste collection containers. Pets are prohibited from the beach. Maximum capacity during peak season under optimal weather conditions is approximately 200 people.

Water Quality

Water quality from 2018 to 2024 met excellent quality requirements. Monitoring results show excellent quality status throughout the documented period. The water body achieves good ecological status and meets good ecological potential requirements.

Risks

Temporary pollution sources include surface water runoff during heavy rainfall; pollution typically resolves within 1–2 days after rainfall ceases. Residential homesteads and houses surrounding the lake may act as point pollution sources. Temporary pollution sources include recreational boats and improper activities by residents. Cyanobacteria visual monitoring is conducted; phosphorus and nitrogen levels have not been tested.
