Ulslev Strand is a fine, child-friendly sandy beach located on the Baltic Sea coast on East Falster near Ulslev and Sdr. Alslev. The beach is approximately 2500 meters long and 15–20 meters wide with a sandy bottom. The bathing area is shallow, with water depth under 2 meters for the first approximately 170 meters from the shore. The beach is classified as excellent quality bathing water based on data from 2011–2014.

Water

Brackish water body. Water depth is under 2 meters for approximately 170 meters from the shore. Water temperature ranges from 12–20 °C during the bathing season. Water currents are variable but predominantly toward the south (33%) and north (24%).

Location

Located on the Baltic Sea coast on East Falster in Guldborgsund Municipality. Access is via Østersøvej to Ulslev Strand or Sdr. Alslev Strandvej to Sdr. Alslev Strand. No public transport serves the beach. Two parking areas are available: one at the north end (Sdr. Alslev Strand) and one at the south end (Ulslev Strand).

Facilities

Toilet, lifeguard rescue triangle, green area with tables and benches. Nearby: summer house area and campground in the southern part.

Season

Monitoring season: 1 May to 1 September. A minimum of 6 samples are collected during this period to monitor bathing water quality.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality bathing water according to Proclamation No. 939 of 18 September 2012, based on monitoring data from 2011–2014. Brief episodes of fecal contamination occur. The municipal watercourse Bjergegårdsløbet, which has an outlet 1750 meters north of the monitoring station, is heavily polluted and receives wastewater from Sdr. Alslev and scattered dwellings. Contamination may also originate from private outlets and surface water runoff during heavy rainfall.

Risks

Brief episodes of fecal contamination may occur. Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms, particularly during prolonged warm and sunny weather with easterly winds. Blue-green algae produce toxins that can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation can occur at the beach edge. Glass, waste, oil spills, and other chemical pollution may occasionally occur. Sudden contamination may result from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage lines.
