Pomle Nakke is a sandy beach located on the eastern coast of Falster in the Baltic Sea, approximately 1.5 km south of Hesnæs. The beach is approximately 500 m long and 10–20 m wide, with a sandy bottom and occasional stones. Water depth remains under 2 m for the first approximately 90 m from the shore. The beach is backed by a cliff, forest (Bønnet Skov), and primarily agricultural land with scattered development.

Water

Brackish water in the Baltic Sea. Beach approximately 500 m long and 10–20 m wide with sandy bottom. Water depth under 2 m for the first approximately 90 m from shore. Water temperature in bathing season ranges from 12–21 °C. Water currents are variable, predominantly flowing south (28% of measurements) and north (24% of measurements).

Location

Located on Falster's eastern coast, approximately 1.5 km south of Hesnæs. Access is via Midtskovvejen. No public transport serves the beach. Parking is available at Traktørstedet Pomlenakke and approximately 100 m north of this location.

Facilities

Restaurant (Traktørstedet Pomlenakke, open approximately June to September). Parking areas available.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 May to 1 September. At least 6 water quality samples are collected during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from 2011–2014. Fecal contamination has been detected in samples taken at the monitoring station, likely originating from the Pomlerenden stream, which receives treated wastewater from Traktørstedet Pomlenakke and surface runoff during heavy rainfall.

Risks

Risk of fecal contamination, particularly after prolonged heavy rainfall or from accidental pollution sources such as pleasure boat incidents, slurry tanks, and sewage lines. Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms possible, especially during prolonged warm, sunny weather with easterly winds; algae produce toxins causing headache, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Macro-algae (seaweed) accumulation risk is generally low but can occur at the water's edge; accumulated seaweed can promote bacterial growth including fecal bacteria. Glass shards, litter, oil spills, and other chemical pollution can occasionally occur.
