Bønnerup Strand Vest is a sandy beach approximately 250 metres long and 60 metres wide located in the northern part of Norddjurs Municipality. The beach consists of sand with few stones and is accessible from the leisure harbour car park. The sea floor is sandy with some gravel and stones, with a distance of approximately 350 metres from the shoreline to a depth of 2 metres. Water quality has been classified as excellent, the highest possible classification for bathing water.

Water

Saltwater body in Kattegat. The beach is approximately 250 metres long and 60 metres wide. The sea floor is sandy with some gravel and stones. Distance from shoreline to 2 metres depth is approximately 350 metres. Water temperature varies between 12 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season.

Location

Located in northern Norddjurs Municipality. The beach extends from the leisure harbour car park to the end of the leisure harbour. GPS reference: Bønnerup Strand Vest, Havet, 8585 Glesborg. A large car park is available at the leisure harbour.

Facilities

Large car park, leisure harbour, tables and benches, rescue post stationed at the beach, playground. The road by the beach is part of the 'Nordsørouten' cycling route. Dogs must be kept on a lead from 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent, the best possible quality. Classification is based on regular control samples taken over a 4-year period, with analyses of e.coli and enterococci included. Bacterial concentrations were generally low, although some larger fluctuations were recorded in the 2009-2012 period.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae is very low due to high salinity. Risk of fecal contamination from sewage overflows is minor. Risk from toilet tank emptying from leisure boats is low. Risk of chemical pollution from shipping incidents is low. Risk of seaweed accumulation is low. Risk of oxygen depletion is very low. Risk of Pacific oysters is not present. Pollen accumulation is a recurring phenomenon that can occasionally impair bathing water quality through discolouration in spring and early summer.
