Vale Do Rossim

Portugal Lake 1 - Excellent

Vale do Rossim is a bathing water located on the right bank of the Vale do Rossim Albufeira in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, municipality of Gouveia, at an elevation exceeding 1400 meters. The albufeira is formed by the Vale do Rossim dam, which intercepts the Fervença stream approximately 4 km upstream of the village of Sabugueiro.

Location

Municipality of Gouveia, on the border with the municipalities of Seia and Manteigas. The monitoring point is located at latitude 40.39796 and longitude -7.582713.

Season

June 28 to August 31, 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). No short-term pollution events occurred during the 2024 bathing season. Monitoring is conducted with a sampling frequency of once every two weeks.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include solid waste from beach activities, flora and fauna present on the beach, and high number of users. Cyanobacteria and phytoplankton have a likely potential for proliferation.
