Vemmetofte Strand

Vemmetofte Strand is a child-friendly sandy beach located 2 km from Vemmetofte village at the end of Ny Strandskov vej, situated in an area characterized by large forest areas and a nearby campground. The beach is approximately 10 meters wide and offers good swimming conditions. It faces the Baltic Sea and is bordered to the west by coastal protection structures and to the east by Kilde Å stream.

Water

Baltic Sea. The beach is relatively shallow with a water depth of 2 meters at 370 meters from the shore and approximately 14 meters at 3.5 km from the shore. Salinity ranges from 5-18 psu. Summer water temperature is 14-20 degrees Celsius. Two small streams, Mølle Å and Kilde Å, discharge near the beach. Current conditions are strongly dependent on wind and tidal conditions.

Location

Vemmetofte village, 2 km away via Ny Strandskov vej. Parking available approximately 150 meters from the beach near a restaurant. The beach is the northernmost bathing beach in Faxe Municipality, located between Fakse Ladeplads and Rødvig on the Baltic Sea coast.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent (udmærket), the best classification possible. This classification is based on bathing water analyses from the preceding four years. Regular water quality monitoring is conducted throughout the bathing season.

Risks

Algal blooms and cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) can occur during warm, sunny, and calm periods, particularly in shallow waters. Seaweed (macroalgae/kelp) can wash ashore during storms and onshore winds, creating aesthetic problems and potentially causing oxygen depletion. Nutrient leaching from agricultural areas in the catchment may promote algae growth. Overflow events from combined sewer systems and wastewater treatment plant discharges are possible but are not considered to present significant risk based on current water quality analyses.
