Vesima is a sandy and pebbly beach located in front of the railway station near the mouth of the Rio Vesima stream in Genoa, Liguria. The beach is classified as excellent for bathing water quality based on 2008-2011 monitoring data. The area is characterized by predominantly stony beach substrate with vegetation behind the shore.

Coastal water body in the Ligurian Sea (Genoa Voltri water body). Coverage area: 0.607 hectares. The water is adjacent to the Rio Vesima river mouth.

Location

Genoa, Liguria province, Italy. The beach is situated in front of the railway station and near the Rio Vesima estuary. Contact: Municipality of Genoa (Palazzo Tursi, via Garibaldi 9, tel 010557111) and ASL 3 (via Bertani 4, tel 01064481).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No specific pollution sources have been identified as currently active. No wastewater treatment plants, discharge pipes, or Imhoff tanks are present in the coastal area. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions.

Risks

The area is affected by river mouth discharge from the Rio Vesima. No cyanobacteria blooms are characteristic of the Ligurian Sea due to oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal blooms have been recorded in the past 4 years.
