Plage du Vieux Bourg is located in the municipality of Fréhel in Côtes d'Armor, Brittany, opening onto the north-east end of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. The beach is situated approximately 40 km from Saint-Brieuc and 38 km from Dinan. The area experiences a macro-tidal oceanic climate with significant seasonal tidal ranges of 10.55 metres in spring tides and 5 metres in neap tides. The geology consists primarily of quartzitic diorites, resulting in impermeable bedrock and shallow soils with rapid surface runoff.

Coastal beach opening onto the north-east end of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. The area is subject to macro-tidal regime with spring tide range of 10.55 metres and neap tide range of 5 metres. Tidal currents flow north-east then east on flood and south-west then west on ebb with velocities less than 0.2 metres per second along the coast. Summer wave conditions are predominantly from the north-west with 83% of waves having significant height less than 1 metre and 98% less than 2 metres.

Fréhel, Côtes d'Armor department, Brittany. Approximately 40 km from Saint-Brieuc and 38 km from Dinan. Bordered by Plurien to the south-west, Pléboulle to the south, and Plévenon to the east.

Risks

Multiple potential pollution sources identified including wastewater management systems (collective and non-collective sanitation), stormwater drainage, agricultural runoff, and accidental spills. The hydrological characteristics of the area are defined by rapid reaction to rainfall variations with very weak buffering capacity, creating intermittent or temporary water flows.
