Plage des Sables d'Or is a bathing beach in the commune of Fréhel. The beach is located in a coastal zone with rose granite geomorphology. Water quality monitoring has been conducted since 2007, with bacteriological surveillance from 2007 to 2011.

Fréhel commune, Brittany region, France. The beach is accessible by documented roads with multiple surrounding communities including Plurien and Erquy.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted by ARS (Regional Health Authority) from 2007 to 2011. Bacteriological surveillance tracked E. coli concentrations. Multiple pollution sources identified including wastewater treatment plant discharges from Fréhel, Plurien, and Erquy, non-collective sanitation systems, and agricultural activities.

Risks

Identified pollution sources include collective wastewater treatment plant discharges, non-collective sanitation systems, agricultural runoff, and stream inputs from Lehen and Islet watercourses. Water quality is affected by precipitation events and tidal conditions. Wastewater treatment plant overflow events occur during rainfall and at specific tidal phases.
