Saint Michel beach is located in the commune of Erquy in the Côtes d'Armor department. The beach is subject to a bathing water vulnerability profile study under European directive 2006/7/CE. The site experiences tidal influences and is affected by freshwater inputs from the Islet river and Lehen stream, as well as discharge from the Erquy wastewater treatment station.

Water Quality

Bathing water quality is classified and monitored by the Regional Health Agency (ARS). Bacteriological monitoring was conducted from 2007 to 2011. E. coli monitoring is performed at the Erquy wastewater treatment station outlet. Shellfish harvesting quality is monitored through the REMI network (IFREMER). Phytoplankton and phycotoxins are monitored through the REPHY network (IFREMER).

Risks

Potential pollution sources include collective wastewater systems, non-collective sanitation systems, and stormwater discharges. The wastewater treatment station discharge is a monitored source. Overflow events occur during high water levels and heavy rainfall. Macroalgae proliferation potential exists.
