Pískovna – Vrbické jezero is a natural bathing water body created by flooding a former gravel pit in Bohumín. The designated swimming area occupies part of the lake, while another section is used for fishing. Water quality is classified as excellent based on microbiological monitoring, though cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in late summer seasons, particularly in August 2019 and 2022, with a swimming ban issued in 2022.

Water

Gravel pit lake with a reservoir area of 120 ha and altitude of 194 m above sea level. A stony and muddy bottom with natural grass-lined shore approximately 300 m long. The catchment area measures 1.7 km². Water fed primarily by groundwater with no surface inflow or outflow. Mining operations have ceased.

City of Bohumín, Masarykova 158, postal code 735 81. Parking is available. Boat rental facilities operate seasonally.

Facilities

Boat rental (seasonal only), bike lockers, waste containers, parking. Floating dock and mooring facilities with capacity for 18 boats were added in 2021. From 2025, a cycling and inline skating path will border the water body. No lifeguard or medical professional present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent based on microbiological indicators (intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli) evaluated from 2020–2023. Phosphorus content is not monitored. Cyanobacterial blooms occurred in late summer 2019 and 2022, with a swimming ban issued in 2022. Water transparency values remain well above the limit, though they decline significantly during high cyanobacterial abundance and algal blooms, dropping below 1 m. Overall monitoring assessment: satisfactory condition. Cercaria presence confirmed in water in 2021 and 2022.
