Pískovna – Kališovo jezero is a natural water body formed by flooding a former gravel pit in the Bohumín area. The lake covers 55 hectares and is fed primarily by groundwater without surface inflow or outflow. A designated bathing area is maintained alongside fishing activities. The water quality is consistently rated as excellent based on microbiological monitoring from 2020–2023, with water transparency stable above the required 1 metre limit for bathing waters.

Water

Gravel pit lake (former sand and gravel extraction site) covering 55 hectares at elevation 196 metres. Fed by groundwater with no surface inflow or outflow. Catchment area measures 1.14 square kilometres. Beach approximately 400 metres long with predominantly grassy banks, partly sandy and pebbly. Bed composition is rocky to muddy with gentle natural entry into water.

Facilities

Refreshment facilities with WC (seasonal only), beach volleyball court, children's playground, bicycle storage, changing rooms, waste bins, paid parking. No lifeguard or health worker present.

Summer recreational season. Monitoring conducted year-round; latest update 2024, next review by 2028.

Water Quality

Microbiological classification: excellent (based on intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli analysis 2020–2023). Water transparency consistently exceeds 1 metre minimum requirement. Short-term pollution not identified. Overall assessment: compliant status. Occasional cyanobacterial cells recorded only episodically in July 2022 since re-listing as bathing water in 2019. Phosphorus content not monitored. No significant point or diffuse pollution sources identified in the catchment.

Risks

Increased water trophy possible due to fishing activities. Recreational visitors may contribute internal loading. Occasional cyanobacterial cells reported.
