Wendebachstausee is a natural lake located approximately 10 kilometres south-east of Göttingen between Göttingen Leinetal and Reinhäuser Wald. The lake was created in 1973 through artificial damming for flood protection purposes. The surrounding pastureland was converted to a forested riparian strip to protect water quality. An experience trail around the lake showcases the diverse and closely-spaced habitats of the area.
