Wolfgangsee, St. Gilgen

Wolfgangsee is a lake with an area of 13.0 km² located primarily in the Austrian state of Salzburg, with portions extending into Upper Austria. The lake is divided into two basins by the alluvial fan of the Zinkenbach stream. The upper water layers warm relatively quickly during summer. The bathing area is located at St. Gilgen.

Alpine lake with an area of 13.0 km². Mean depth: 41 m. Maximum depth: 114 m. Available shoreline for bathing: 400 m. Water renewal time: 11.9 years. Summer water temperatures reach approximately 20–24 °C. The lake is divided into two basins by the Zinkenbach alluvial fan.

Location

St. Gilgen, Salzburg, Austria. The bathing area is situated at Strandbad St. Gilgen on Wolfgangsee.

Risks

The Zinkenbach stream causes reductions in water transparency, particularly in the St. Wolfgang section of the lake during high water events when mineral suspended solids are washed in.
