Wolfgangsee is a lake with an area of 13.0 km² located primarily in Salzburg, with portions extending into Upper Austria. The lake is divided into two basins by the Zinkenbach alluvial fan. The upper water layers warm relatively quickly in summer. Visibility depth can be reduced, particularly in the St. Wolfgang section, when mineral sediments are washed in during high water events.
