Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Zaraso ežero maudykla is a public bathing beach located on Didžioji island (Big Island) in Lake Zaraso in the Uteno district of Lithuania. The beach is situated in the Dauguvos river basin and has been monitored for water quality since 2008 under European Union Directive 2006/7/EB. Water quality has met excellent standards throughout the 2018–2024 monitoring period.

Facilities

One toilet. Sports facilities and children's play areas. Three waste containers. Maximum visitor capacity: approximately 100 people during peak season under favourable weather conditions.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (puiki kokybė) from 2018 to 2024. Monitoring conducted under EU Directive 2006/7/EB. Point source pollution: wastewater discharge point 'Laukesa' (code 430010, in the Dauguvos tributary basin). Diffuse pollution sources: none identified. No surface water bodies upstream that could be pollution sources. No pollution sources identified that could have negative impact on bathing water quality.

Risks

Short-term pollution possible during heavy rainfall; pollution typically disappears within 1–2 days after rain ends. No testing conducted for blue-green algae, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton. Phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations were not tested; water transparency was monitored.
