Piazza dei Pini is a sandy beach in Silvi, Abruzzo, with over 99% sand composition and medium grain size. The beach is nearly flat with a slope of approximately 4–5%, and has an average width of about 70 metres. The area is backed by urban settlements and summer tourism infrastructure related to bathing activities. The beach is part of a 7-kilometre coastal stretch along Silvi Marina.

Water

Coastal marine waters. The beach itself is sandy with no dune cordons and a gradient of approximately 4–5%.

Location

Silvi, Abruzzo, in the province of Teramo. The bathing area is located along Lungomare Centrale, a 1,250-metre stretch of beach with 20 beach concessions.

Facilities

First aid services, toilet facilities, and hygiene services at each bathing facility. Multiple restaurants and sports facilities including beach volleyball courts. Pets are permitted according to regional law 19/2014. Standard safety signage for bathing and navigation is present.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Water quality is monitored by ARTA (Abruzzo Regional Environmental Protection Agency). Wastewater from public sewage is treated by a consortium treatment plant in Montesilvano (managed by ACA Spa). Silvi Alta discharges treated wastewater through an activated sludge facility in Vallescura. No cyanobacterial blooms have been detected in recent years. Rare summer algal blooms (dinoflagellates with low or no toxic species) have been recorded in previous years.

Risks

River mouths (foce fluviali) identified as potential pollution sources. Short-duration pollution events are under study using appropriate modelling approaches. No anomalous events have occurred.
