Teatro D'Annunzio is a sandy bathing beach in Pescara, Abruzzo, characterized by fine sand with grain size D50 = 0.200 mm and over 99% sand composition. The beach has no dune ridges and varying width from approximately 50 to 70 metres or more. The surrounding area is occupied by urban settlements with various beach establishments, some equipped with swimming pools, and three free beaches.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. No treated wastewater discharges or storm overflow systems are present in the Pescara shoreline. Potential pollution sources include the Pescara River, Vallelunga Ditch, and Pretaro Ditch which delimits the southern boundary of the city. Wastewater from Pescara is conveyed through mixed sewage network and lifting stations to the Raiale water treatment plant managed by the water authority (A.T.O.). No active specific monitoring measures are currently in place.

Risks

Potential pollution sources from Pescara River, Vallelunga Ditch, and Pretaro Ditch. No cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in the marine waters off the Abruzzo area. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation events have occurred. Sparse phytoplankton blooms occur in summer months with dinoflagellate blooms occasionally observed in past years with scarce or absent toxic species.
