Fosso Vallelunga is a coastal bathing area in the Pescara municipality, characterized by a low-lying sandy beach with over 99% sand composition and medium granulometry. The beach is approximately 80 metres wide with no dune cordons. The area experiences bimodal wind phenomena typical of the Adriatic coast, predominantly from the northeast. The water quality has been classified as excellent, with no bathing bans recorded over the last four years.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No bathing bans; consistently suitable for bathing over the last four years. Quality trend: poor (2016), sufficient (2017), good (2018), excellent (2019 onwards). Water body ecological and chemical status rated as good in the 2013-2015 period. TRIX index: good. No treated wastewater discharges or storm overflow structures are present on the Pescara coast.

Risks

The Pescara River, Fosso Vallelunga, and Fosso Pretaro are potential pollution sources. During intense rainfall, waters from Fosso Vallelunga reach the sea. Modest to locally significant erosive activity occurs on the beach. No cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in the marine waters. Some dinoflagellate blooms with scarce or absent toxic species have been observed in previous years.
