Zona Montedison is a bathing area located in Cirò Marina, Calabria, on the Tyrrhenian coast. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality.

Coastal waters of the Melissa–Cirò waterbody. Geomorphological descriptor: narrow coastal strip. Sandy-pebbly beach with average seabed slope of 1.4% from waterline to 5-metre isobath. Sediment granulometry from 0.13 to 2 mm. Bathing area extends 2.004 square kilometres.

Location

Cirò Marina, province of Crotone, Calabria. The bathing area is situated in front of the Montedison industrial facility.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent. No specific active measures are currently in place for wastewater treatment.

Risks

An accidental malfunction of an industrial installation at the Montedison facility has been identified as a potential source of short-duration pollution. Cyanobacteria proliferation has not occurred in the past four years. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation has not been verified.
