Hornbæk Strand Vest is a bathing beach located west of Hornbæk Harbour, stretching approximately 750 metres with a width of 30–50 metres. The water quality is rated as excellent based on measurements from the four most recent seasons. The beach features a wide sandy strand with adjacent dune areas and is monitored at station 271.

Water

Brackish water (salinity 1.8–2.3%) with a sandy bottom. Water depth is approximately 2 metres at 200–260 metres from the shore. Dominant current direction is west to east. Strong reef formation and strong currents are present, with risk of high waves and the formation of rip currents.

Location

West of Hornbæk Harbour in Hornbæk, Copenhagen. Parking is available at Øresundsvej and Vestre Stejlebakke. Public transport includes the local train to Hornbæk and buses 342, 340, or 347.

Facilities

Lifeguards present from 22 June to 4 August (10:00–18:00), extended to school summer holidays 10:00–18:00 and all weekends 1 June to 1 September. First aid equipment available 08:00–20:00. Toilets at the beach and harbour, with disabled toilet 08:00–20:00. Disabled accessible paved path from parking to beach. Disabled parking available. Bath wheelchair available for loan from lifeguards. Drinking water 08:00–20:00. Kiosk on site. Litter bins and waste separation facilities provided.

Season

Lifeguard coverage from 22 June to 4 August (10:00–18:00). Extended lifeguard presence during school summer holidays and weekends from 1 June to 1 September. Dogs prohibited from 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Monitoring station 271 with 10 samples collected in 2024. Blue algae blooms occur never or rarely. Macroalgae presence is noted in areas with risk of phytoplankton bloom. Primary pollution source is Vesterbæk discharge, which presents overflow risk during heavy rainfall causing short-term water contamination for up to 2 days after the event.

Risks

Strong currents and reef formation present. Risk of high waves and rip currents. Risk of phytoplankton bloom. Overflow from Vesterbæk discharge during heavy rainfall may contaminate bathing water for up to 2 days.
